Description

Following a brief introduction to neuroscience and its use of multiple techniques, lectures are used to present the structure and function of the visual system, contrasting the roles of the cortical and subcortical structures. The structure and function of skeletal muscle is then examined before the control of movement is outlined. The anatomy and physiology of the auditory system are studied and how they interact. An outline of the structures involved with the perception of touch and pain are then covered. The neural basis of learning and memory is discussed in the context of experimental and clinical studies of different types of amnesia and conditioning in animals. Finally, the ways in which biological responses are moderated by psychological, sociobiological and evolutionary processes is reviewed.
